If you and your family celebrate Halloween - have a great night and be safe!  Student Blog Post: This morning, we had a Halloween Scavenger Hunt. Students worked in groups to solve math problems around the school and answer a secret message. Students enjoyed themselves and worked really hard throughout the first part of the day. As a reward, next Friday, we will have a class pyjamas day.  After recess, we worked on our October reflection and then we worked on some Halloween literacy activities. Student Blog Post: This morning, we did our daily routine. Then, we had a mini grammar lesson from a group. Finally, we did our Daily 5 Literacy centres. After recess, we had physical education and then we had Science period. We read a text in Science and students were asked to pick out important vocabulary in the text. This afternoon, we had a lesson in English Language Arts. In Science, we observed our group plant growth and watered them. Finally, in Social Studies students continued to work on their Social Studies brochure plan.  Discussion led by: K.T.

Student Blog Post: This morning, we did our daily routine. Then, we had a mini lesson on our grammar editing tool, POMMES. Then, we worked on our modeled book report. Students finished their good copy of their first book report.  After recess, we worked on our self evaluation. Students gave themselves a mark for reading, writing, speaking. They also graded themselves on their work in math and behaviour in the classroom.  This afternoon, we worked on our Tourism Alberta brochure and then we had a Science experiment with plant seeds. Finally, we reviewed elements of a story and had a read aloud from Wonder.  Discussion led by: L.K.

Student Blog Post: This morning, we did our morning routine and we discussed the expectations for a lock down and the behaviour expecations for learning buddies. After, we had a practice lockdown. Then, we worked on our good copy of our modeled book report.  After recess, we had a lesson in Social Studies. We worked on our Social Studies pamphlet and then we had an experiment in Science. Students looked at a variety of different seeds. Then, we had reading buddies. Finally, we shared our orange, apple and onion of the week.  Discussion led by: E.R.

Student Blog Post: This morning, we did our daily routine. Then, we had a lesson in French Language Arts. Afterwards, we had a mini lesson led by a group of students on self and peer editing work. Students were asked to present their work their lesson using materials and concepts learned in class during the last couple of weeks.  After recess, we had physical education with M. Trevor.  Then, we worked on our assessment system (4,3,2,1) looking at sample of work at each level. Students reviewed the work in groups of "editors". Afterwards, students presented their explanation as to why they thought each sample of work fell into each category (Why was it a 4,3,2, or 1) This afternoon, we had

Students were asked to work in groups on one of the POMMES letters to create a mini lesson for the class. We looked at an example of work that we could edit ourselves. We will continue to look at various grammar throughout the next couple of weeks. Students will begin these presentations tomorrow to the class tomorrow.  After recess, we continued to work on our modeled book report in French. We discussed the three levels of government, their leaders and what students thought they stood for in the election. We had a lesson on our self-editing checklist POMMES. Students were asked to create a mini lesson on how to teach and check this editing tool. After recess, we had a lesson on measurement and then we worked on our Daily 3 in mathematics lesson. Then, we had physical education outside with M. Trevor.  This afternoon, we reviewed some expectations for the class book report, "teach me" presentation and recess equipment. Students presented their findings to the rest of the class.  After recess, we worked on our own book report by organizing our thoughts into a graphic organizer. Then we worked on an Art & Science project. Students used pastels to add colour to their sketches. During art, we had a practice fire drill. Afterwards, we cleaned up the classroom and completed Blogger as a class.

Student Blog Post: This morning, we had a presentation from a Michael Wagner, a Forest Hydrologist for the Government of Alberta who came in to speak to us about plants, trees and all things living. He brought a lot of great props and visuals for students to make connections with. After recess, students worked on an exit slip for the presentation. Then, we had physical education in the gymnasium.  This afternoon, we had a lesson in English Language Arts. Then, we discussion on Grade 4 expectations and encouraging participation in class. Finally, we had music.

Then, students were divided up into their Daily 5 centre groups for our Literacy program.  (Group 2) After recess, we reviewed the elements of a story. Students began to write their response in a graphic organizer for their own book report books that are due in November.  Then we had library period. Then, students worked with a partner to discuss them in greater detail. Finally, we drew the steps on our sheets of the plant cycle. We also began a social studies lesson on geography. After recess, we had visual arts where we worked on tree art and examining perspective. Then, we worked on a pumpkin art piece and discussed student portfolios. Finally, we ate snack and cleaned up the classroom.
